FCCLA NATIONAL MISSION
To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multipe roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
?What do we do
FCCLA in general is a club for pretty much anybody, but especially those interested in the Family and Consumer Sciences. Our division of FCCLA meets in homeroom about once every two weeks. We do fundraisers to help raise money for the fun and exciting trips we take to things such as the leadership conference at Stout, Mall of America, and the Star Event Competition at State. Many of our members chose to do a Star Event, but it is not required. With our chapter you can be as involved as you want to, but it is a lot of fun!
Why Join?
FCCLA is a great way to meet new people not only in our school, but in others as well! The fundraisers we do are a perfect way to do this. We do things such as make pies or treats to sell from scratch! It takes a lot of work to pull it off, but everyone has a lot of fun doing it. Plus there is a job for everyone! You don't need to be able to cook, although it is a good way to learn a few things! This year we even hosted Champion's Creepout! We all had tons of fun dressing up and being scary! Besides fundraising a great thing about FCCLA are the Star Event Competitions. They too require some work, but in the end your hard work does pay off!
A Star Event is a project that has to do with one of the many consumer sciences. These projects have three "levels of difficulty" so you will be competing against other people with the same level of talent as you. Also, there are many different Star Events you can choose from, so there is definitely one that is just right for you! There is anything from Job Interviews to Interior Design to Cooking. After you choose your Star Event you will have a couple months to work on it out of school until the regional competition. At this competition you will be judged on your project by a rubric that will be given to you ahead of time, so you will already know what to expect! If you get a certain score on your Star Event you will then move on to the state competition. Ask any members that have gone to state before and I will guarentee that they will say they had a lot of fun at state! If your project makes it past state then you get to move on to the national convention. We have been lucky enough to have two members go to Nationals in 2013 for the first time. It may seem like a lot of work at first, but in the end it is worth it!
What is a Star Event?
If you are planning on doing a Star Event then you must become an affiliated member and pay a due of $20 which includes a shirt, however anyone is welcome to all of our meetings!
